Arsenal have submitted a new bid for Ajax defender Lisandro Martínez.
They originally bid £22 million for the Argentine international, but that was turned down by the Eredivisie club who value him closer to double that.
Now the Gunners have gone back with an offer believed to be closer to £35 million.
Manchester United have also been linked with the player but currently their efforts are focused on trying to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
The Gunners prize Martínez for his versatility. Although he is primarily a left-back, he can also play in the centre of defence, as well as further forward in midfield.
The player himself is receptive to the idea of moving to North London but it remains to be seen if the latest offer is enough to persuade Ajax to part with the man who was their Player of the Season in the last campaign.
