Chelsea’s pursuit of Juventus central defender Matthijs de Ligt continues.
And now comes news that they are willing to offer striker Timo Werner in part exchange, in a player plus cash deal.
De Light wants to leave the Bianconeri after talks over a new contract broke down in acrimonious fashion, with the 22 year old deeply unhappy about Juve’s attempts to engineer a pay cut for him.
And that has opened the door for Chelsea, who are ready to submit in offer of £38 million, with Werner added to the deal as a make-weight.
Juventus are reported to be interested in Werner, despite the German forward’s struggles at Stamford Bridge. He has scored just nine Premier League goals since arriving at Stamford Bridge two years ago.
However, with de Ligt having a release clause of £103 million, Chelsea may have to substantially increase the cash element of any bid if it is to succeed.
