Arsenal battle United for Portuguese midfielder

Reports in Portugal suggest that Arsenal are ready to battle Manchester United for Porto midfielder Vitinha.

He has a £35 million release clause in his contract and Porto will only listen to offers for the 22-year old from clubs will to meet it in full.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also been linked with him, but the ability of the latter to find the necessary funds must be questioned.

Vitinha already has Premier League experience, having spent the 2020 – 2021 season on ;loan with Wolves, going on to make 19 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands’ side, most of which came off the bench.

He returned to Porto last season and was an integral part of the side that won the Primeira Liga, and then went on to complete a domestic double into the bargain..

Earlier this year he received his first call-up to the Portugal senior squad, and now has three full caps for them.

Arsenal have already pulled off a surprise deal to sign Vitinha’s Porto team-mate Fabio Vieira.
