Chelsea have identified Christopher Nkonku of RB Leipzig as their preferred replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker wants to return to Inter Milan, although there is currently a difference of opinion between the two clubs about his loan fee.
And whilst many names have been cited as potential replacements, including Gabriel Jesus, who is also being linked with Arsenal, Nkonku is Thomas Tuchel’s clear preference.
However, persuading Leipzig to part with the player may be a different challenge altogether.
They are determined to keep him and have slapped a fee on him.
The player himself has talked of wanting to extend his stay with the Bundesliga side.
Premier League clubs have, of course, more money to spend than their continental rivals, so if the offer is right, Leipzig could be tempted to change their mind.
But having broken their transfer record for one striker that did not work out last year, there is an obvious risk in repeating that strategy.
