Chelsea eye swap deal for Juve defender

Chelsea are considering a swap deal for Juventus defender Merih Demirai, that could see Jorginho heading in the opposite direction.

Jorginho’s current deal, worth £117k a week ends next year, and desperate to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2023, Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking to offload him this summer. Juventus are long-term admirers of Jorginho.

Demirai who has also been linked with a move to Newcastle spent last season on loan at Atalanta, and impressed, belying his reputation for being injury prone by making 42 appearances for them in all competitions.

Atalanta had the chance to make the move permanent, but decided that the agreed upon fee of £16 million, was beyond their means.

And, with little chance of a breakthrough back at Juventus that leaves the Turkish international surplus to requirements and open to a new challenge.

Swap deals, though, are notoriously hard to pull off, with arguments about relative values of the players involved common.
