Nottingham Forest want to sign Arsenal utility player Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma, but he struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho, especially in the closing months of the campaign and. although the Serie A side had the option to make the move permanent, they declined to take it up.
He is now scheduled to return to the Emirates for pre-season training, but does not feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the campaign to come.
Forest had hoped to hang on to the services of on-loan wing back Djed Spence, but a host of bigger clubs, led by Tottenham, look they will outbid them for the Middlesbrough player.
And has that had led to begin searching elsewhere, with Maitland-Niles, who only has 12 months on his current contract with the Gunners, high on their list of potential targets.
