Otherwise known as Chicharito (‘little pea’), Mexican footballer Hernandez has enjoyed a stellar career with clubs such as Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, and his national football team. Now playing in the USA for LA Galaxy, we take a look at a selection of top quotes on Javier Hernandez.
A footballing career which has lasted over 15 years, Hernandez has also appeared in over a hundred internationals for the Mexican football team.
Spotted by a club scout in 2009, Hernandez was signed up by Manchester United a year later. In six seasons at Old Trafford, he picked up the Premier League honours twice in three seasons. Though scoring only 37 league goals in that time, he nevertheless has one of the highest scoring rates in the league history, with a goal every 130 minutes due to him coming on most times as a substitute.
A short move to German side Bayer Leverkusen saw him top score for the club in his two seasons there, before trying his hand again at the English Premier League with London side West Ham United.
In 2020, he linked up with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, and became the competition’s highest paid player. Apart from 109 appearances for Mexico, he is also the country’s leading goalscorer in history, and has been selected for three World Cup tournaments so far.
Known for his knack of goal scoring from close range, Hernandez possesses quick reflexes despite having a small stature. In 2012, he was honoured with being delegated as his country’s ambassador for UNICEF.
“He’s the sort of centre-forward who has made a living out of being a fox in the box and scoring at every opportunity they get…..Chicharito needs those sort of opportunities and we need to get more of the ball in the box.”
