Notwithstanding the current uncertainties surrounding the sale, Thomas Tuchel has still been having discussions with the club’s new owner Todd Boehly about transfer targets.
The German has already complained that it will be impossible to close the gap to teams like Liverpool in one transfer window, especially if they continue to lose players without replacing them.
In fact, the club could be about to lose an entire back four – the departures of Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen have already been announced and both César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are being linked with moves to Barcelona.
And the Catalans may be about to throw another spanner in the works for Tuchel. Although Jules Koundé remains the top defensive target, Barcelona manager Xavi is also a huge fan of the player, and could offer their La Liga rivals players in part exchange for him.
And he also has an excellent personal relationship with some of the key figures at Sevilla.
