Maybe seen as one of the less flamboyant players in the young group of footballers known as ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ Butt was nevertheless an important member of the Manchester United team that dominated English football in the ‘90s. Along with the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville, Butt came through the youth system at the club, and matured as a team of world beaters years later.
His 12-year spell at Old Trafford was characterized by a host of titles; six Premier Leagues, one Champions League, and three FA Cups. Butt was a crucial part of the midfield line-up playing alongside the likes of Scholes and Roy Keane. Despite all the success, Butt moved on from the club due to limited appearances in the latter years.
He played for Newcastle United and even for South China but saw limited success. He was however brought back to Manchester United to help with the coaching of the youth team where he had successfully learned his trade all those years ago. Butt stayed nine years at the club’s academy.
Along with his former team-mates Ryan Giggs, Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, Butt became the co-owner of the football club Salford City in 2014. Known affectionately worldwide as part of the ‘Class of ’92, Butt also participated in 39 internationals for the England national team.
