And they have been in intense discussions with César Azpilicueta about a similar now.
But now it seems they have another Chelsea defender in their sights in the form of left-back Marcos Alonso.
He is reported to be keen to move back to Spain this summer, and the Spanish club are reported to have already made direct contact with his agents to sound out his intentions.
The 31-year old is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2023, which means that this summer is the best remaining opportunity for the West London club to sell him if they want to get real value for him.
Otherwise they are at risk of him following the example of Antonio Rüdiger and running down his deal, allowing him to leave next year on a free transfer.
