Chelsea are considering re-signing former player Fikayo Tomori.
Strengthening the centre of defence has become a summer priority at Stamford Bridge, now that is has been confirmed that Antonio Rüdiger will leave the club. He is expected to be confirmed as a Real Madrid player.
The German international is joining Andreas Christensen in the departure lounge, who is set to join Barcelona. And with Thiago Silva now 37 years old, the team urgently needs centre-back reinforcements.
Tomori came through the Chelsea academy system, but having fallen out of favour, joined AC Milan on loan in last year’s January transfer window.
The move was made permanent last summer, and he has since gone on to display impressive form in Italy, and has forced his way back into contention for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup later this year.
He still has three years left on his contract in Milan, so Chelsea can expect to have to pay considerably north of the £25 million that they got for him less than a year ago.
