Thomas Tuchel says there is a high probability that club captain César Azpilicueta will stay with the club.
Barcelona, who have all but admitted they have signed Andreas Christensen, have been in talks with Azpilicueta, hoping to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the West London club following the imposition of sanctions on it.
However, due to the number of appearances he has made this season, a pre-existing clause if the full-back’s contract has been triggered, meaning that a one-year extension comes into force.
Tuchel admits “it’s good news for us.”
However, he also says there is little they can do about Antonio Rüdiger, because their hands are tied, and cannot offer him new terms or negotiate with his agents. It has been reported that the German was on the verge of accepting a new deal at the club when the sanctions were imposed following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
