Newcastle face competition for Leno

Newcastle United are facing competition in the fight to sign Arsenal stopper Bernd Leno this summer.

The Gunners have decided that the German stopper, who will still have a year on his contract, can leave the club at the end of the season.

Matt Turner, the current US number one keeper, has already been signed from MLS side New England Revolution as his replacement.

Newcastle are believed to be the frontrunner for his services, with question marks over the reliability of Martin Dubravka, but now Bayer Leverkusen, the club he left to join the Gunners, want to bring him back to the Bundesliga.

Leno began the season as number one under Mikel Arteta, but lost his place to Aaron Ramsdale after the team lost their opening three games of the season. He returned when Ramsdale was injured for the match against Aston Villa last weekend and kept a clean sheet, but the Englishman is now established as first choice for the Gunners.
