Chelsea are set to miss out on Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchoameni.
The West London club have been heavily linked with the French international for months, and considered lodging a bid for him in January, although that never materialised.
But, with the uncertainty now hanging over the club, it now looks like he will end up elsewhere.
Real Madrid are interested in a player whose style has been described as similar to N’Golo Kanté, but the player himself wants to move to the Premier League, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United all ready to compete for him.
After years of having their choice of top overseas and British talent, it may be a scenario Chelsea fans will have to reconcile themselves to in the future, whoever ends up owning the club.
Ironically, Monaco too have a Russian owner, Dimitri Rybulovlev, but have so far escaped the fate of Chelsea because he has always identified himself as being against the regime of Vladmir Putin.
