Marina Granovskaia who has been described as the most powerful woman in football, has been a key figure at Chelsea for over a decade, and is responsible for how the football side of the business operates – including oversight of all transfer activity, player contracts and managerial appointments.
She is also reported to be the only executive at the club who is in regular contact with current owner Roman Abramovich, and her future was thought to be inextricably linked with his following the Russian’s decision to sell the club.
However, some of those reported to be interested in buying the club have indicated that they are open to the idea of her staying on, but with one major pre-condition.
That is that the Russian-Canadian business executive must cut all formal ties with Abramovich.
Whether the woman who started her professional life as Abramovich’s PA back in 1997 after graduating from Moscow State University is prepared to do that is unclear.
