UFC star Conor McGregor claims that he wants to buy Chelsea.
Roman Abramovich has announced that he wants to sell the club in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as he looks to dispose of all his UK-based assets for fears that they may be seized as part of government imposed sanctions.
That means he is looking for a quick sale, something he has facilitated by writing off his £1.5 billion loan to the club.
McGregor does not have the funds to buy the club himself – he has an estimated fortune of £180 million, plus his stake in the Proper Twelve whiskey company he owns which is worth around £423 million – but he is looking to form a consortium which could mount a bid.
Abramovich has said that any money raised from the sale will be donated to war victims.
He is thought to value the club at £3 billion.
