Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea future may already be in doubt.
Last summer the club paid Inter Milan a record £97.5 million to Inter Milan to bring him bac lot Stamford Bridge, but after a bright start, the goals and the contributions have dried up.
An ill-advised interview with Italian television before Christmas in which he said that he regretted the move from Inter created a rift with the club’s fans, and, despite his two goals in their successful FIFA World Club Cup campaign, more doubt has been thrown on him after his performance in the Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Lukaka had just seven touches in the game (and one of those was a kick-off), the lowest of any player in any Premier League match since such statistics began to be collected in 2003.
His manager Thomas Tuchel has hardly done wonders for his confidence, comparing him to previous world class strikers who have flopped at Stamford Bride, like Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko.
Now there is even speculation he could be sold in the summer, although the West London club know they will not get anything like what they paid for him.
