Captain César Azpilicueta may yet stay at Chelsea.
The 32-year old, is the longest serving player at Stamford Bridge, but is coming to the end of his current contract at the end of the season.
The club’s policy of only offering one year deals to these over 30 has seen negotiations over a new contract breakdown, and he has been linked with a summer move to Barcelona on a free transfer, with the Catalans ready to offer him the multi-year deal he is seeking.
But now Thomas Tuchel has intervened, insisting he is “super important” for the club, and insists that he embodies all the values that Chelsea stand for , including humility combined with a determination to succeed.
Azpilicueta has always made it clear that his preference is to stay in West London, and now a way may be found to meet his wishes.
