Gianluca Scamacca of Serie A club Sassuolo is the latest striker being linked with a summer move to Arsenal.
A product of the Roma youth academy, he moved to the Netherlands to join PSV Eindhoven when still a teenager, but he soon returned to Italy and Sassuolo.
He then underwent a series of loan moves – to Cremonese, Ascoli and Genoa, sandwiched with a brief spell back in Holland with PEC Zwolle,
However, he was finally given the chance to show what he could do by his parent club at the start of this season, and has repaid their faith in him, by scoring 9 times in 25 appearances this season, and has begun to invite comparisons with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, due to his height, combined with his technical abilities on the ball.
He has not been devoid of problems off the pitch – he was sent home from an Italy under-19 training camp in 2017 for his part in a practical joke that went too far, and there is still bad blood between the player’s family and Roma because of the way he left them.
It is hoped these are just growing pians because Mikel Arteta has made it clear bad attitudes are not tolerated at the Gunners.
