Chelsea are being linked with a summer move for Brighton defender Adam Webster, although Newcastle United are also tracking him.
Thomas Tuchel is set to lose up to three of his experienced defenders in the summer and Webster has been identified as somebody who could fill one of the gaps in the squad.
Webster moved to the South Coast side from Bristol City in 2019, and, although it took him a while to come to terms with the demands of the Premier League, he has since become a consistent and reliable performer for The Seagulls.
Newcastle, who have already signed Webster’s former colleague Dan Byrne, in the last window, also are looking for quality defensive reinforcements, and, despite Chelsea’s resources, thanks to their wealthy Saudi backing, they may have the edge if it comes to a bidding war.
Brighton do not want to let him go, but they are realistic enough to know they cannot afford to turn down a big offer if they receive one for the Englishman.
