Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang’s Arsenal career is over.
He had not played for theclub since being stripped of the captaincy and left out of the squad for returning late from a family trip in December. Since then, he had been away with Gabon at the African Cup of Nations, contracted Covid for a second time, and had a health scare after lesions were detected on his heart.
A dramatic last day loan move to Barcelona seemed on the verge of collapsing when the two sides could not agree on how much of his salary the Catalans would pay.
However, it was then resurrected when a new arrangement was put in place.
Instead of a loan, Arsenal and Aubameyang agreed to terminate his contract and he would move as a free agent. The Gunners have received no fee for him, but are estimated to have saved £25 million in wages over the duration of his contract.
