Chelsea captain set for summer exit

It is looking increasingly likely that Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta will be leaving the club in the summer.

The Spaniard, who is the longest serving current player at Stamford Bridge, is into the final six months of his current deal. And, although he has publicly said that he wants to stay in West London, they are not prepared to meet his contract demands.

The club has a policy of only offering 12 months deals to players over 30, whereas Azpilicueta is looking for three years to extend his stay.

Chelsea could feasibly be prepared to offer a year and the option of a further 12 months on top, but the player does not feel that offers the security he and his family are looking for at this stage of his year.

This could pave the way for Barcelona to sign him on a free contract in the summer, alth9ough no firm deal is yet in place.
