Arsenal are ready to turn their attention to Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad as they look to bolster their striking options.
The club have been heavily linked with a move for Dusan Vlahović of Fiorentina and were prepared to pay a club record fee to sign the Serbian.
However, there is now a growing acceptance that Vlahović only wants to join a team that can give him Champions League football, and they have been used just to try and drive his price up.
Instead, their attention has turned to Swedish international Isak.
He has release clause of É58 million, but they are trying to negotiate a fee lower than that.
Last season Isak scored 17 goals in 24 games for the La Liga side, and had a good tournament with Sweden at the Euros in the summer.
He has not been so prolific this season, scoring just eight in 25 games in all competitions, but he still represents an upgrade over what Mikel Arteta has at his disposal since Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang lost form and fell out of favour.
