Tuchel downplays likelihood of signings

Any hopes that Chelsea fans have of seeing new signings bolster their diminishing title challenge may be disappointed.

That is following remarks from manager Thomas Tuchel which seems to suggest that the club will not be adding to their squad in the current window.

The club have been linked with defensive reinforcements, particularly in the left-back area, with Ben Chilwell out for the rest of the season.

But, having seen target Lucas Digne move from Everton to Aston Villa instead, and being unable to recall Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell with Lyon, the German now appears content with what he has got already.

Instead, he believes that getting some of his absentees back will be sufficient to strengthen the team, saying “Of course we will try to improve but if you mean do we need other players, I think we just need our whole squad.”

Injuries, AFCON and Covid have all combined to reduce one of the biggest squads in the league down to the bones.
