Emerson return ruled out

Hopes that Emerson Palmieri could be recalled from his loan spell have been dashed.

With Ben Chilwell likely to miss much of the rest of the season with the ligament damage he picked up playing against Juventus in the Champions League in November, Chelsea have been assessing their options and ways of replacing him.

Although they have not discounted going into the transfer market, internal alternatives have also been explored, and one was to seek for the return of the 27year old from his spell in France with Ligue 1, Lyon.

However, now Lyon manager Peter Bosz has ruled it out, making it explicitly clear that they are going to allow the defender to return to his parent club, and such provision is not in his loan deal.

The West London club still have Marcos Alonso, whilst earlier this week it was Malang Sarr who started in the position, before dropping into a back three when Alonso came on as substitute in the Carabao Cup win over Spurs.
