Thomas Tuchel has sent a clear message to the Chelsea board telling them that the club’s hopes of trophy success this season could be damaged unless the club dips into the transfer market in January.
The club are currently drawing up their plans for the window, but an immediate priority for Tuchel is a new left back to cover for the absence of Ben Chilwell, who is expected to miss much of the rest of the season with a knee injury.
However, in an ideal world, he would also like extra depth on the other side of the field, with the news that Reece James could be out for two months after suffering a hamstring injury.
Lucas Digne of Everton, who has been told he can leave Goodison Park this month, is one of the names under consideration, and they are also exploring the possibility of recalling Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell with Lyon.
