They spent all summer being linked with a move for the Sevilla player, although, in the end, no move materialise d because the Spanish club refused to budge ion their valuation of the French international.
However, now it is reported that those behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge believe that it is now only a matter of time before he makes the switch to West London and that the La Liga side are now ready to settle for less than hs£68 million release clause.
There are even suggestions that Chelsea may be ready to pay tat sum in order to ensure that none of their rivals try and make a move for him.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking for a replacement for Antonio Rüdiger who is out of contract and seems certain to leave at the end of the season, whilst talks with another defender, Andreas Christensen, over a new deal are reported to have stalled.
