It has been revealed that Chelsea’s attempt to sign defender Marquinhos in the summer failed, despite the Champions League winners offering £72 million for him.
However, PSG, where the Brazilian is club captain, turned down the offer for the 27-year old, and are now ready to fend off any future interest in the player by tying him down to a new long-term deal, which will run through until 2026 or 2027.
Thomas Tuchel’s side spent much of the last transfer window being heavily linked with a move for Sevilla’s Jules Koundé, only to be thwarted when the Spanish side refused to be moved on their valuation of him.
Their interest in Marquinhos now indicates that brining in a central defender was top of Tuchel’s wish list, and, with Antonio Rüdiger seemingly hell bent on leaving at the end of the season, it is clear activity where they might be focusing when the transfer window opens once more.
