Chelsea are set to partially solve their defender issues by finally agreeing new deals with Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva.
The future of both players has been in doubt, with their current contracts expiring at the end of the season.
Christensen, in particular, they are keen to tie down to a new deal because, at the age of 25, he still has the best years of his career ahead of him.
Silva is at the opposite end of the scale, because, at 37 years old he is now a veteran, but he is still highly valued at Stamford Bridge for his experience, leadership, and example that he sets to the younger players.
With Chelsea increasingly looking like they will lose the services of Antonio Rüdiger, and with the future of club captain Cesar Azpilicueta also in doubt, they will be relieved if the question marks over two of their defensive stalwarts can be resolved before the January transfer window opens.
