A number of Chelsea players are reported to be unhappy and confused about the club’s failure to sign captain Cesar Azpilicueta to a new deal.
The 32 year old, who is the club’s longest serving player, is in the final year of his current contract at Stamford Bridge, and there have been reports that Barcelona are in advanced talks to sign him on a free contract at the end of the season.
It is reported that Azpilicueta, who has made 443 appearances in all competitions since signing from Marseille in the summer of 2012, is open to the idea of staying in West London, but he has yet to receive a concrete offer from the club.
Time is now of the essence. The January transfer window opens in less than four weeks’ time,. at which stage he can formally negotiate with foreign clubs and even sign a pre-contract agreement with them.
