Barcelona in advanced talks with Chelsea captain

Barcelona are reported to be in advanced talks with Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta about a summer move to the Nou Camp.

The Spaniard is the longest serving player at Stamford Bridge but he is in the final year of his contract with the West London club, and, although there has been talk that he will be offered an extension, there has been little concrete progress made on that to date.

As things stand he can begin formal negotiations with foreign clubs next month when the transfer window opens again and can even sign a pre-contract agreement with them if he so wishes.

The well-publicised financial problems of the Catalan club mean that they are going to have to rely on free transfers like Azpilicueta as they look to rebuild their squad under new manager Xavi.

Recently the Spaniard has found himself benched by manager Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge and has appeared in just one of their last seven Premier League games.
