Arsenal are reported to be in talks with Swiss international Denis Zakaria over a summer move to the Emirates.
The Borussia Monchengladbach player will be a free agent at the end of the season and has already informed the Bundesliga side that he has no intention of signing a new deal with them. His contractual situation means that he can begin discussions with foreign clubs in January, and even sign a pre-contract agreement with them.
He has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Manchester United and Liverpool both interested in him previously.
However, Arsenal are the ones who have made the first move, although their hopes of securing his services may depend on thee ability to qualify for European football next season.
Zakaria has made 140 career appearances for Monchengladbach.
If he does make the switch to the Emirates, he will find one familiar face already there in the form of international captain Granit Xhaka.
