Chelsea have opened contract talks with goalkeeper Édouard Mendy and want to offer him a new and improved deal.
Since signing from Rennes in the summer of 2020. The Senegalese has made a big impression, quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
However, despite being under contract until 2025, Mendy is one of the lowest earning players at Stamford Bridge, earning currently £60,000 a week.
Now they are keen to reward him for his contribution with a new and improved deal, which would boost his weekly salary to the £100,000 a week mark.
One man who will be happy with the news is manager Thomas Tuchel, who recently gave his own endorsement of the player saying “every top team needs a top goalkeeper and we have one”.
That is despite Mendy having arguably his worst game in a Chelsea shirt against West Ham on Saturday, when he was culpable for two of the goals.
