Chelsea have made a breakthrough in their discussions with defender Andreas Christensen about a new deal at the club.
The Dane has only seven months left on his current deal, meaning that he is potentially free to talk to clubs from abroad in January.
However, it is now hoped that a satisfactory resolution has been reached and that he is ready to put pen to paper on a long-term deal.
Abd that means it is one less headache for the Chelsea hierarchy to deal with, as three other experienced defenders – Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Antonio Rüdiger – are in the same contractual situation.
Christensen has become a vital player since Thomas Tuchel took charge of the club, and has started 12 Premier League and Champions League matches so far this season.
And, having joined the club when he was just 15, it looks like his long association with Chelsea is set to continue.
