Chelsea want to sign Barcelona teenager Gavi.
The 17-year old midfielder has broken into the Catalan’s first-team this season, another graduate off La Masia production line, and he has a release clause of €50 million (£42 million), a figure that Chelsea are prepared to pay.
His current deal runs until 2023, and Barcelona want to tie him down to a long-term deal, but Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a move for a player who has drawn comparisons with club legend Andreas Iniesta.
Gavi recently became Spain’s youngest ever international.
To try and forestall them, Barcelona are ready to tempt the teenager with a new deal that would run until 2026, and which would include an astronomical release clause of €1 billion.
That is similar to the new deals they have agreed with two more of their highly prized youngsters, Pedri, who has just won the European Golden Boy award, and Ansu Fati.
