Chelsea are looking to exploit the upheaval expected at Barcelona once Xavi is appointed as the new manager of the Catalan club.
With the 41-year old expected to be announced imminently as the new Barcelona boss, it is expected that a number of signings made by his predecessor, Ronald Koeman, will be moved on as Xavi looks to impose his own stamp on the team.
And one of the players surplus to requirements could be Sergio Dest, who was signed from Ajax last summer in a deal worth £17 million, but who has struggled to adapt to life in Catalonia.
The right-back was signed at the specific request of Koeman, but, with question marks over the defensive side of his campaign, he has been deployed in a more advanced role this campaign, and has provided three assists in 11 league games.
With Xavi indicating that Dest is not part of his long-term plans, that has alerted Chelsea, who are looking to replace club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
