Burnley could be about to offer Ross Barkley a lifeline when the January transfer window opens.
The England midfielder finds himself at a career cross-roads. About to turn 28 , he is very much on the fringes at Stamford Bridge and, apart from the odd appearance in Cup competitions, is not part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the season ahead.
He spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, but after a bright start in the Midlands, a combination of injury and loss of form, relegated him to the bench and they declined the option to sign him permanently.
Under contract until 2023, Barkley’s only hope of regular football now appears to try and obtain a move away from West London.
Now it looks like Burnley may be ready to reignite their interest in him. The Lancashire club wanted to sign him in the summer, but at that time Barkley chose to wait and evaluate his options,
However, with his prospects not having improved again, they are hoping this time they may succeed.
