Barcelona want Chelsea captain

Barcelona would like to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Spanish international has been with the Blues since signing from Marseille almost a decade ago, and has become an integra; part of the side, with his ability to play in a variety of positions – right-back, left-back and centre-back – highly prized.

He has made 439 appearances in all competitions for the club, and has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and League Cup, the Champions League and two Europa Leagues during his time in West London.

He is now 32-years old, however, and into the fianl year of his current contract.

There have been discussions about offering him a new deal but, with no agreement yet in place, Barcelona are hoping to take advantage of his contractual situation.

Given their current financial situation, Barcelona will be prioritising youth signing and free transfers like Azpilicueta when it comes to transfer dealings in the near future.
