Chelsea are prepared to make a bid of £100 million to sign Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus,
The West London club are still looking for defensive reinforcements after their failed bid to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla. Koundé remains an option, but they are ready to consider alternatives, one of whom is reported to be Ligt.
Now 22, De Ligt first made a name for himself as part of the young Ajax side that reached the Champions League semi-finals, only to lose to Spurs in dramatic fashion,
That made him much in demand and Juventus had to beat off competition to sign him.
Since them he has been in and out of the side under different managers, struggling to get ahead of the veteran pairing of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chellini, but has started three of their five Serie games this season, and scored the winner at Spezia last week, helping relieve the pressure on newly returned manager Max Allegri.
