Real Madrid are interested in signing Chelsea and England full-back Reece James next summer.
The Spanish club are seeking defensive reinforcements with the injury problems of Spanish international Dani Carvajal of continuing concern.
Now they have drawn up a shortlist of option, and James is one of the names on it.
He joined the academy system at the West London club and progressed through the ranks, but it took a loan spell with Wigan Athletic to convince the club’s hierarchy that he was ready to make the step up.
He has gone on to make nearly 90 appearances for the club in all competitions, and his form has been good enough for him to become a regular member of the England squad, with 8 full international caps to hs name so far.
He is currently under contract at Chelsea until 2025, and it would take a substantial bid to prise him away from West London. James scored the winning penalty for Chelsea in their League Cup shoot-out win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
