Borussia Dortmund are the latest German club interested In bringing Timo Werner back to the Bundesliga.
They have placed him on their shortlist of possible candidates to replace Erling Haaland in the event that the Norwegian striker moves on next summer, something which now looks an increasing probability.
25-year old Werner, who moved to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig in July 2020 had a difficult first season in English football, scoring just six times in the Premier League place, and Romelu Lukaku’s arrival from Inter Milan for a club record fee has bumped him down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern Munich have also been monitoring his situation, but Dortmund hope that he could rediscover his form and confidence by signing for them.
One drawback though could be personal terms – Werner would have to accept a substantial pay cut on his current salary of £17 million if he joined Dortmund.
