Sevilla have denied that the deliberately blocked defender Jules Koundé’s move to Chelsea.
The French international spent the summer being linked with a move to the Champions League winners, only for the deal to founder on price, with the Spanish club holding firm on his release clause, despite their widely reported financial problems. .
Now their manager Julen Lopetegui insists that the club decided that it was better that they keep him in Spain in light of the offers they received.
Koundé, who was sent off playing for France against Bosnia midweek following a crunching tackle on Sead Kolasinac of Arsenal, is reported to be very unhappy that the move to West London did not materialise in the end.
Now it remains to be seen if Chelsea are prepared to renew their interest in January, and whether Sevilla’s stance on retaining the services of the 22-year old will have softened in the meantime.
