Chelsea fans, focussed on the arrival of Saúl Ñiguez at the club, and the failed bid for Jules Koundé may have missed the news concerning Welsh international Ethan Ampadu.
Signed form League two Exeter City as a 16-year old, Ampadu has become something of a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge, mainly because he has only made 12 appearances for the senior team in all competitions, and none for more than two years.
Instead, he has enjoyed a series of loan moves, first to RB Leipzig in Germany and last season to Sheffield United, making 26 Premier League appearances for the South Yorkshire club in campaign that ultimately ended in relegation.
And, now he has been sent out on loan again, this time to Italy. He will be spending the net year with Serie A newcomers, Venezia, but, before departing, he signed a new three year deal with Chelsea.
Still only 20, Ampadu will be hoping that he gets the chance to at least realise some of his potential in a new environment.
