Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson has joined Eredivisie side Feyenoord on loan for the season.
The Rotterdam team had been hoping to conclude a similar move for Manchester United’s Amadou Diallo, but turned their attention to Nelson after the Ivorian picked up an injury.
Nelson has become very much a fringe player at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta, although he did feature as a late substitute in their opening day defeat at Brentford. And, with no European football to offer fringe players this season, his playing time was likely to be very limited.
He previously spent the 2018 – 2019 on loan with Hoffenheim in Germany, where he started brightly until his form tailed off.
The 21 year old has signed a one year contract extension at the Emirates before departing, partly to protect his value, and it is hoped that a season of regular first-team football will help realise some of the early promise he showed when he first broke through in North London.
