Chelsea hope to further trim their squad before transfer deadline day In order to reduce their wage bill and two players that could be headed for the Stamford Bridge exit door are Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater.
Barkley spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, but, despite a strong start with the West Midlands club, injury, and a loss of form, dropped him down the pecking order, and they declined to exercise their option to buy at the end of the campaign.
Drinkwater has made just 23 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since signing form Leicester City in 2017, and none for three years. Instead, he has had loan spells with Burnley, and Aston Villa, and, last season Kasimpașa in Turkey, but his career has latterly been dogged by off the field incidents. Championship side Reading are reported to be interested in acquiring his services.
Permanent deals for the pair are unlikely but more loan deals can be expected.
