Central defender Andreas Christensen is set to sign a new four-year deal at Chelsea, with an option for a further year after that.
The 25-yearol;d was in the fianl year of his current contract at Stamford Bridge, and the two sides had been locked in negotiations about extending it, with the Danish international threatening to leave on a free transfer next summer.
However, a suitable compromise has now been reached by both sides, with the defender set to receive a significant pay increase.
He joined the West London club as a teenager, and has rediscovered his best form since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager, helping them win the Champions League for the second time in May.
He has started all three of Chelsea’s league games this season, including Saturday’s draw with Liverpool at Anfield, and was also part of the side that won the club’s first silverware of the current campaign in the shape of the European Super Cup.
