Highly rated Arsenal teenager Miguel Azeez is set to move to League One Portsmouth on loan for the season.
The midfielder is tipped to have a bright future at the Emirates, but, with the club not involved I European football this season, it is recognised that first-team opportunities are likely to be very limited under Mikel Arteta in the forthcoming campaign.
Therefore, it is thought better for his development if he can experience playing regular first-team football.
What has helped sway Arsenal’s decision to lend him to Portsmouth is that they are now managed by Dan Crowley. He was in charge of Huddersfield Town when Emile Smith-Rowe had his own loan spell there in 2018 – 19, a period that is widely credited with turning him into a Premier League regular, and somebody on the verge of international recognition.
It is hoped that Azeez might benefit in the same way.
