Arsenal club owner Stan Koenke accidentally revealed details of Granit Xhaka’s new contract with the club.
The Swiss international has signed a new deal with the Gunners that is set to run until 2025, but it had not officially been announced, after a summer in which Xhaka had seemed on the verge of a move to Italy and Roma.
American billionaire Stan Kroenke who owns the club is not known for his public pronouncements. Instead, the man, who is widely derided by Arsenal fans who the way he is has allowed the club to go downhill on his watch, is normally known by the sobriquet “Silent Stan”.
It, therefore, came as a surprise when a piece under his name appeared in the match day programme for the game against Chelsea, and even more, when he made reference to Xhaka’s new deal.
He explained that Xhaka would be able to support the club’s younger players.
