Romelu Lukaku is set to undergo his medical with Chelsea, and, barring unforeseen issues, will become the club’s record signing In the next few days.
After weeks of negotiations with his current club Inter Milan, a breakthrough was agreed over the weekend, with the Premier League outfit agreeing to pay £97.5 million for their former player.
The 28-ywear old is expected to put pen to paper on a five year deal worth around £212,000 a week – before bonuses.
Inter did not want to sell him but with their finances in a difficult position and with the club owners pressing for savings, they felt that they had no choice in the end but to take the money on offer, especially when the player himself indicated a desire to return to Stamford Bridge.
His signing will come too late for him to feature in the European Super Cup against Villareal on Wednesday, but he could be available for Chelsea’s first game of the new Premier League season at home to Crystal Palace next Saturday.
