The announcement that Granit Xhaka is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal is imminent.
The 28-year old’s current deal at the Emirates runs until 2023, and now he is set to sign an extension that will keep him in North London until 2024 at the earliest.
Xhaka had seemed on the verge of a move to Roma and had agreed personal terms with the Serie A side. However, the team now managed by Jose Mourinho could not match the Gunners’ valuation of the midfielder and he returned to pre-season training with Arsenal, who have since had a change of mind.
Mikel Arteta is reported to be a big fan of Xhaka, because, in his deep-lying role at the base of midfield, he has been crucial in how the side lokes to play out from the back.
The new deal will help protect his value and it looks like he still has a big role to play at the Emirates.
